The "64 Check"

All numbers must sum to 64. With 12-18 numbers, quick mental addition is essential. Group numbers into pairs that sum to 10 for faster checking.

Even-Width Advantage

Unlike 7×7, the 8×8 grid has perfect bilateral symmetry. If you solve the left half, the right half often follows similar patterns. Use this to cross-check your placements.

The "Big Number" Rule

Numbers above 32 in an 8×8 grid are extremely constrained. A "48" must be 6×8 (covering most of the grid). A "56" must be 7×8. These large numbers effectively partition the grid into regions before you place anything else.

Advanced Technique: Region Counting

2Sum-check regions. If a region has 12 cells and contains numbers 4, 3, 5 — they sum to 12. Perfect fit. If they sum to 11, something's wrong.
3Eliminate impossible shapes. For each number in a region, list all possible rectangles. If only one fits the region constraints, lock it in.
